Since you are likely a real estate, mortgage or appraisal professional, we will spare you the data dump that shows that homeownership improves communities via better familial, medical, educational and financial outcomes because we would simply “be preachin’ to the choir”. 

However, we will share one key statistic:

Citigroup found that just since the year 2000, $218 billion were lost in housing market sales from the entire American economy due to Black applicants facing unfair lending.

Wowser! Can you imagine how $218 billion more in sales would have impacted your firms and associations?

Now can you imagine if the data were to go back and account for the days before and after federal fair housing and lending were codified in the twentieth century (since this data only analyzed the twenty-first century)?

What if the data included all of the other federally and locally protected classes like religion, national origin, disability and so forth?

Even this pared-down data makes it crystal clear: the more fair access and opportunity that everyone – no exceptions – has to become homeowners, the better off we all are.

Ultimately, we deny ourselves when discrimination against others goes unchecked.
